Lastly, if you're facing certain annihilation of crew & plane with no hope of return there is a cheese to abandon the mission & return to your last save point. Having strong outers increases the probability of having at least one engine to get home on. Some fighters will target the inners, destroying them even if upgraded.

When it comes time to upgrade your engines do the outers first. You can use the arrow keys to rotate the view or zoom in & out. The outside view will be towards wherever the tagging reticule was oriented last. 1-9 controls the respective crew members, P sends the highlighted crew member to the pilot seat if empty, R sends them to get ammo, F sends them to the bed to regenerate health, Z toggles the inside/outside view. When recruiting an engineer, prioritise one with the highest temperature resistance, that way you can travel to & from the target at high altitude for longer, which is safest.

Crew members will be more sensitive to low temperatures when they have taken damage. Give him & the rest of the crew the advanced oxygen bottle as soon as possible since it doesnt affect movement speed. Your engineer is the most susceptible to cold temperatures since you want to deck him out in stuff like plimsolls, beret & fingerless gloves for extra movement speed. Be aware that corkscrew & evade flak will often send you off course, requiring a correction from the navigator. Emergency dive does the same & will also put out an engine fire if you are higher than the lowest altitude. The evade flak perk seems to also work a bit like the corkscrew, making you harder to hit by enemy fighters. The Spitfires & P-51s are a great asset so this can be a huge advantage. If you have a couple of back up radio operators you can pretty much have a fighter escort for the entire mission by quickly switching them in & out on the radio (once they are levelled up). I have the engineer as a secondary gunner & a couple of the dedicated gunners as first aid guys so they can heal each other in between fighter contacts. Think logically about the secondary skills for your crew. I usually bomb the primary objectives first to make sure I don't run out but usually there's enough bombs to do both. This can be done in a single run because the target doesn't have to be in the middle of the target reticule for the photo to be successful. Recon targets can be bombed for extra points. Highlight the pilot, then click the padlock in the bottom left of the tab. You can lock the pilot in position so you don't accidently move them at a critical time. After that you can advance at the normal speed. I tend to farm the early missions until I have a bit of progression with plane & crew before proceeding to the next tier level. This is especially important early on in the game or after you have lost a plane or crew since that is the time when you are most vulnerable. The crew will still earn some XP even if the mission fails. Getting the crew & plane home safely is way more important than fulfilling mission objectives.

Upgrade your radar as soon as it's available, same with hydraulics & electrics.ĭon't be shy about aborting the mission, ever. I find if you're using more than 2 medkits, the mission is probably doomed anyway so 2 or 3 is enough. Put one at the back for the tail gunner & the rest at the front so everyone can bail out quickly if needed. Next I add equipment racks with chutes, eventually with enough for the entire crew. I upgrade/add turrets first, then add armour to the crew, starting with the pilot & gunners. The early missions are the hardest imo because you have weak, inaccurate guns, pretty useless radar & a squishy crew. These are my personal opinions & up for welcome debate but here is how I tackle the campaign. Having completed the RAF & USAAF campaigns I thought I would compile some of the important/lesser known hints that helped me through it.
